I think the IPL is over, actually I know it is as with my ashamed head in my hands I watched some of the final. It was a little like a Victorian peep show, every now and then I just had to pop another shilling in the lookey lookey hole for another look at the filthy show unfolding behind the curtain.
Actually the last 20 minutes was quite exciting, if for nothing more than to see Shane Warne and his team of misfits win the tournament. This was good on two levels, firstly the Rajistan Royals were written off at the start, they cost the least and did not have a squad packed full of the big names, secondly Warne showed us why he is still a massive (no I'm not talking about his waistline) influence in any form of the game. it wasn't that he went out in every game and bowled the team out for 10 runs or scored centuries with his bat (oh Shane that elusive century) but it was more his captaincy. The way he leads is exceptional, and only he could have given that team the hope and confidence they needed to go out there and win the competition. I think, but don't quote me, that one of the most expensive teams in the league finished last, talk about having your wallet nicked AND your trousers pulled down.
