What was missing from lasts nights one day match between the West Indies and Sri Lanka? Well nothing actually, I apologise if you were waiting to hear some insight into why the game had in fact fallen flat on its face. No, that couldn't be further from the truth and with such a dramatic end to the contest it laid its claim to one of the best one day matches...oh I don't know, since a week last Tuesday.
But the main point for me and everyone else I'm sure was the great Shiv Chanderpaul, hitting a 4 through mid-off and then a 6 over the head of Sri Lanka's captain to seal the match. Did Shiv hear the news of his rightful inclusion in the Wisden top 5 cricketers of the year and think, 'right, I'm going to go out there and show em why I'm in that list' or was it just pure brilliance from the man England could not get out during the Windies last tour. Whatever the case may be, Chanderpaul showed why he's one of the best batsmen out there.
One thing did strike me about lasts nights match though, I noticed Charminda Vaas was without his familiar face cream, you know, the cream that looks like a giant white beard on his face. Maybe this omission by Vaas had in some way affected his potency, maybe, maybe not, but one thing we do know for sure is that this particular issue will not be a talking point in any cricketing circles, shame.
